Access All Aerials Charity Event

On Saturday 16th April, first and second year Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation in Sport and Exercise Students attended a charity event at Dame Hannah’s, Newton Abbot, in aid of Access All Aerials: http://www.discoverhannahs.org/seale-hayne/support/access-all-aerials/

Access All Aerials is a radio station broadcasting live over the internet with around 30 presenters who have a wide range of disabilities. This radio station has given these individuals confidence and allows them to be heard; "they can see the person and not the disability".

The aim of the event was to raise £1000 to help up-date the current studio and look to create a new one due to the increasing popularity of the shows.
‘Pamper Prison’ was the theme of the day and each ‘prisoner’ had to raise a minimum of £100 each as bail money to be released from ‘prison’.
The day was supported by beauticians, sports therapy/sports rehabilitation students, a yoga instructor and a kinesiologist to pamper the ‘prisoners’ for their help in raising money. There were also 2 PSCO’s to come and keep the ‘prisoners under control’ and even a 'drugs dog'.

This isn't the usual place our students would be seen providing sports massage, so the day was for them to have more hands-on experience in a remedial setting and they did a fantastic job! Not only were the prisoners pampered, but they were also able to offer massage to those who were supporting the day and raise more funds. Needless to say the massage was the most popular area of the day!

Throughout the day, the Access All Aerials radio show was broadcasting and one of our students, Charlie Thomas was interviewed. You can listen to the interview at the following link: https://www.spreaker.com/user/accessallaerials/pamper-prison-fm (192 minutes in).

It was a great opportunity for the students to network, promote the University and the Sports Injury Clinic and raise important funds for Access All Aerials.
The total at the end of the day was £1480 and still counting!

“I really enjoyed it and met some extremely good people, who are doing a great job. The day was very educational, but most of all rewarding”
Richard Haydon, First Year Rehabilitation in Sport and Exercise Student
